WHY MOTIVE IS IMPORTANT : UNDERSTAND THE POWER OF "WHY".

Motivational blog thumbnail about the importance of motive and purpose in achieving goals.

~:Introduction:~

The term "motive" was not invented by a single individual, but rather evolved in the English language from French and Latin origins during the Middle English Period.

  • The term is derived from the Latin term motivus, which means "moving" or "impelling", and the verb movers, which means "to move".
  • Its earliest known use as a noun in English is recorded in the writings of Geoffrey Chaucer around 1390
The need for motive in a human's life is crucial because it provides purpose, direction, and the energy to act.

According to me:-)

    1. Motive plays the role of the seed, which decides everything, in simple words, the beginning, while
    2. The environment plays the role of the soil in which we will put the seed and
    3. Habits play the role of resources required for growth.

What is Motive?

Illustration of determination and inner purpose, representing how motive drives actions.
According to the Vedas, the Old Testament, and the Quran, the concept of motive extends beyond mere external actions, emphasising the internal intentions, specific goals, and moral framework that drive human behaviour. All three traditions highlight that a divine entity or cosmic law evaluates the underlying motives, not just the outward deeds,

1.) Vedas:->

The Vedic tradition addresses motivation through the framework of Purusharthas and the laws of karma, where the intentions behind an action significantly impact its consequence.

  • Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha
  • Karma and Kama (All acts that are derived by desire)
  • Spiritual Goals
  • Inward Purity

2.) Old Testament:->

God is presented as omniscient, capable of discerning the innermost thoughts and intentions of the heart, which humans can't reliably do.
The motive is the crucial factor,
  • Divine Scruting
  • Emphasis on the heart
  • Motive determines culpability
  • Ultimate Motivation

3.)Quran:->

In the Quran, motive, or Niyyah(Intention), is a fundamental and decisive aspect of human action. The underlying intention determines whether a deed is considered an act of worship or a worldly pursuit.
  • Primacy of Intent
  • Seeking Allah's Pleasure
  • Balance of Hope and Fear
  • Internal Struggle
To be more precise, according to the present times,

One Meaning for Motive: A Mental State Driving Acts.

=> On reading, Kenneth Burke takes "motive" to be an internal, private, mental state that impels an actor to perform an act, guiding and shaping the performance of that action.

Define a Motive:->

That which moves or induces a person to act, or a consideration of reason, which influences, or tends to influence, a person's volition. A moving or inciting cause. That which moves or tends to move a person to a particular course of action; that constitutes a motive for action.
The terms "desire," "fear, " "other emotion," and "volition" all indicate that a motive is cognitive. The use of words such as "moves," "induces," "influences," and "incites" suggests that motive exerts a directive effect on behaviour. Thus, one possible meaning for Burke's concept of "motive" is a mental construct, a cognition that motivates, impels, or shapes human behaviour, including symbolic action.

An Anecdote – Colonel Harland Sanders.

I bet most of us don't even know who he is and what he did.

He is the Founder of KFC(Kentucky Fried Chicken)

    Born   -   9th September 1890

    Death - 16th December 1980

The man whose recipe of fried chicken was rejected 1009 times

I've only had two rules: Do all you   can,   and do the best you can
-By Colonel Harland Sanders

When Colonel Harland Sanders was at the age of 65 years old, he got a pension check of $105 per month from the governor.
Most people will think that it is their destiny.
Most people will stop moving forward.
But Sanders had a motive - a deep one.
It's not about money,
It's not about fame,
He just wanted to share his fried chicken with the whole world, the one recipe that he had tried to make perfect for so many years.
He has believed in his recipe so much that he travelled long distances at that age, going from restaurant to restaurant to ask for at least trying his recipe once, but he failed again and again.
He did everything to make his recipe known among the people for its delicious taste.
He sold his recipe for free to people,
He went from door to door knocking,
Some people complimented, while others never replied, and some opened the door for him, while others thought he was a creepy old man with lots of hope.
Some people laugh,
Some were shocked by seeing his dedication,
Some people said it will never work,
Some people said he is too old to do this, all he should stop.
While some said it's JUST A WASTE OF TIME.
But he NEVER STOPPED MOVING FORWARD because his "WHY" was very, very strong, which made him stand again and again he fell.
And one day, he found his destiny in the name "KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN(KFC)".

His Story teaches us a simple truth:-
When your motive is strong, age doesn’t matter. Rejections don’t matter. Circumstances don’t matter. Only your “why” matters.

Why do motives change everything?

A compass representing direction and clarity gained from having a strong motive.

Motive changes everything because it reveals character, determines the moral value of action, and fundamentally shapes the long-term outcome of a person's behaviours and relationships.

1.) Motive Gives You Direction.

Without a proper motive, it becomes impossible to finish one task after starting. We jump from one goal to another.

A strong motive acts like a compass.

Ask yourself

=> Why am I doing this?

=> What do I want to achieve?

=> Where do I want to reach?

When Your Motive Is Clear, your direction becomes clear to you.

 2.) Motive Makes You Consistent.

Motivation always fads, Discipline takes effort, but your motive stays with you and helps to remind you that,

"I am not doing this for fun; I am doing this because it matters to me."

Consistency becomes easier when you have a reason bigger than your excuses.

3.) Motive Helps You Handle Failure.

When things go wrong, people with weak motives tend to quit, while those with strong motives try again.

Because their purpose is stronger than their pain.

Ask yourself

=> If I fail, what will still push me to continue?
=>What am I afraid of losing?
=>What do I truly want for myself?
Your Answers Are Your Motive

4.) Motive Builds Identity.

Your motive shapes who you become.

For Example :->
  • If your motive is learning, you become a student of life.
  • If your motive is health, you become a disciplined person.
  • If your motive is success, you become focused.
Your identity is the outcome of your motive.

Questions You Must Ask Yourself Now.

To understand your motive, clearly answer this:==>>
Image of a person thinking deeply, representing self-reflection and purpose.

  • What is the real reason behind my goal?
Is it for yourself, your family, passion, your ego, or fear?
  • Will this motive of yours survive hard days?
If not, it's not strong enough.
  • If no one is watching me, would I still want this?
This question reveals your true intentions.
  • What will happen if I DON'T achieve this?
Your fear also defines your motive.
  • Who will I become if I am loyal to this motive?
Because motive transforms people.

Write your Answer somewhere very secretly because this will guide you until the last day when you become something.

How to build a story motive?

Building a strong motive in life involves a combination of self-reflection, goal-setting, discipline, and cultivating a supportive environment.

~ Discover Your "WHY" and Purpose

A strong motive is often driven by an intrinsic sense of purpose.
  • Identify a core value and choose something meaningful to you, not temporary, not shallow, not based on other opinions. Ask yourself about your most meaningful moment and produce an accomplishment to find patterns in your values.
  • Connect your motive to your identity and explore your passions.
Consider what activities you genuinely enjoy and the topic you love discussing. This can be a strong indicator of your understanding and passion, and you should also tell yourself that,
Example:-
"I want to study because I want my life to improve."
"I want to work out because I respect my health."
  • Define your "Why" by constantly asking yourself why a particular goal is important. Keep digging until you reach the core value that is driving your desire. This "WHY" will serve as a powerful internal motivator.
  • Remind yourself daily
Rewrite your purpose.
Repeat it.
Visualise it.
  • Visualise success by spending some time with yourself each and every day,
Visualise what achieving your goals and living your purpose would look and feel like. This can reinforce your commitment.
  • Let your motive become your Standard.
Ask yourself every day,
"Is what I am doing aligned with my motive?"

=> Set effective goals and habits.

Motivation often follows action, so establishing a routine and making progress are crucial.

-> SET SMART GOALS
-> BREAK DOWN TASKS
-> BUILD HABITS WITH TRIGGERS
-> TRACK PROGRESS AND REWARD YOURSELF

=> Foster a positive Mindset and Environment.

Your surroundings and mindset play a significant role in sustaining motivation.
-> CULTIVATE A GROWTH MINDSET
-> SURRENDER YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE
-> PRACTICE SELF-CARE
-> EMBRACE IMPERFECTION
-> PRACTICE GRATITUDE

They know why they do what they do

When your motive is clear,

  • You don't give up.
  • You don't settle.
  • You don't fear challenges.
  • You don't break under pressure.
You become unstoppable.
Here is the breakdown of why motive holds such power,

  • Motive is the root of action

INTRODUCTION:- Miyamoto Musashi   (1583 - 13 June 1645) was a philosopher, strategist, artist, writer, and a renowned swordsman in Japan, and remains so to this day. Today I am talking about this person because I want you all to learn from him some of the very important things that I appreciate in him the most. The most important thing I want to ask you is what do you think is the most important thing to WIN? Most people will say some heavy words like a calm mind, consistency, discipline, becoming a master of a skill or finding a purpose or motive to do something. Yes indeed, they are very, very important, but they can't assure a proper win against your opponents. According to me, the most important thing to win in anything is to be unpredictable at every move because most people can become calm, consistent, etc., to chase their dreams, but when you become unpredictable, it's impossible to understand your next move. I will give you the reason why I am saying this, just stay w...

Your Are Your Habits - How Small Daily Actions Shape You.

Self-improvement is a long journey that  is to be followed consistently. When we talk about self-improvement, what comes to mind first  is that we have to make a strict routine. And then we have to  follow it very strictly, like going to the gym every day,  developing a top-notch Communication skill, or going to the  doctor for a full head-to-toe check-up, which could be very  expensive sometimes. But what if I say we don't need to do this  at the very start of our journey? Then you will ask me, "What  should we do then?" Let me explain to you a very simple thing: "When you do a simple task daily or take small steps daily  towards your respective goals, that is how you start". Some of  the very popular authors or philosophers also say that,  like  James Clear  says in his book Atomic Habits : " He emphasises the "power of continuous improvement," stating that getting just 1% better every day results in being 37 times bette...
